Carey Why Do You Think They're Called For Profit

  1. How does Carey organize his text? Why do you think he organizes his text the way he does?
  2. Describe a strategy used by Carey.
  3. Do any parts of his text seem particularity persuasive? Do any claims seem unsupported?

"In 2004, Clifford led the sale of a destitute Baptist institution called Grand Canyon University to investors. Six years later, enrollment has increased substantially, much of it online. The ownership company started selling shares to the public in 2008 and is worth nearly $1-billion today, making Clifford a wealthy man." Carey organized his text in a way that using various  examples to prove his opinion on for profit colleges.  He interviews people who have invested in the business, and are entrepreneurs trying to make money. His strategies include the way he provides evidence, and the way he establishes credibility through ethos. These two are important in helping Carey created a backbone in his argument. This is used when he provides tons of numbers as statistical evidence on actually how much money these for profit schools are making money of student loans. Carey seems most persuasive when he uses the mom as an example of a person has has gone to one of these schools and now she is in tons of debt.
